1 Compulsory Documents to Carry on Trial Day

2 Reporting Time & Strict Dress Code Protocol
The Department of Motor Traffic enforces strict punctuality and presentation standards for all candidates:
- Arrival Window: Candidates must arrive at the testing ground at least 30 to 45 minutes prior to the scheduled trial batch time.
- Footwear (CRITICAL): Fully closed shoes or sneakers with flat soles are MANDATORY. Slippers, flip-flops, sandals, and high heels are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN by RMV examiners.
- Dress Code: Neat, decent casual or formal attire (trousers/jeans with shirt or t-shirt). Shorts, sleeveless tops, and offensive printed clothing are prohibited.
- Motorcycle Candidates: Must wear an approved Sri Lanka Standards (SLS) certified safety helmet with the chin strap securely fastened, and full-length trousers.
3 Samaras Pre-Trial Mock Exam Clearance
Our 99% first-attempt pass rate is powered by our rigorous preparation standard:
- Simulated Trial Test: Every student must clear a full mock test at our dedicated practice track, replicating the exact dimensions of the government trial ground.
- Familiar Vehicle Allocation: You will perform your trial exam in the exact dual-control vehicle you were trained in, ensuring complete muscle memory and clutch confidence.
4 Key Practical Test Maneuvers Evaluated
Government examiners assess your vehicle control, spatial awareness, and safety judgment across specific standardized maneuvers:
- Pre-Drive Cockpit Drill: Adjusting seat, checking rearview and side mirrors, fastening seatbelt, and verifying neutral gear and handbrake before starting.
- The "L" Board Reverse Maneuver (Light Vehicles): Reversing into a marked garage lane between boundary poles without touching poles, curbing, or stalling.
- Parallel & Bay Parking: Smoothly steering into a parking bay in one continuous controlled motion with proper indicator signals and mirror glances.
- Incline Hill Start: Stopping on a steep slope and moving forward using handbrake/clutch coordination without rolling backward even an inch.
- Motorcycle Figure-8 Track & Balance: Completing the tight figure-eight course without placing a foot on the ground or wobbling.
5 Main Road Driving & Traffic Etiquette Evaluation
Following the track maneuvers, the examiner will board the vehicle for a real-world public road assessment:
- Mirror-Signal-Maneuver Routine: Glancing at internal and side mirrors before indicating and changing lanes or turning.
- Lane Discipline & Speed Limits: Staying strictly in the correct lane and maintaining safe speeds within statutory road limits.
- Roundabouts & Pedestrian Crossings: Yielding right of way to traffic from the right and stopping completely for pedestrians on marked crossings.
- Smooth Braking & Gear Changing: Seamless acceleration, progressive braking, and shifting to the correct gear without looking down at the lever.
6 Instant Results, Pass Formalities & Retrial Support
The RMV Examiner announces the trial outcome immediately upon test completion:
- Passed Candidates: Receive an official stamped pass endorsement and temporary permit documentation enabling lawful driving while the permanent smart card license is printed.
- In Case of Failure: Don't worry – our chief instructor will analyze the exact reason for the examiner's deduction, schedule targeted refresher lessons, and book the next earliest available RMV date.
With patient training, accurate mirror discipline, and thorough mock ground practice, over 99% of Samaras Driving School students clear their RMV trials on attempt #1.
